We’re excited to share the news that Casa El Buen Samaritano has received a $58,000 grant from Direct Relief and the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (NAFC). The funding we are receiving will support our hurricane response efforts in southwest Houston and specifically, will provide free laboratory testing to our patients for one year.
When our city needed the most help, Direct Relief was there. This support allowed Casa to welcome more than 400 additional patient visits than those originally expected in 2017 after Hurricane Harvey. Every patient at Casa receives a high standard of medical care including laboratory testing at no cost to the patient and this grant will provide free testing to more than 1500 patients this year.
This support means that Casa’s patients will continue to receive quality care without the barrier of having to drive long distances for a lab test as the clinic’s medical volunteers will perform the testing on site. This eliminates one of the biggest barriers to health in our community which is transportation.
We are thankful for the support from Direct Relief and the NAFC for their recognition of the continued need as we deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and we continue our important work of providing care to those in need in our community.
